When you hear the name Westwood Studios, you’ll probably remember Dune 2, the Command & Conquer series, or Lands of Lore. It’s likely you won’t remember them for their three adventure games taking place in the mystical fantasy kingdom of Kyrandia.
It’s a double-edged sword that most point-and-click retro adventure games we fondly remember were made by Lucas Arts or Sierra – we tend to forget a lot of the other developers that tried to establish themselves in the genre. To be fair, lots of them will be forgotten in a couple of years for good reasons. Will the Kyrandia games stand the test of time?

It seems that the great people at Good Old Games are on quite a roll, after the recent acquisition of Square Enix. This time they’ve brought part one of the stealth classic trilogy Thief into the world of DRM-free digital goodness. They (GOG.com) have made sure every game they’re selling comes bundled with extras, and this is no exception; the version of Thief comes with the Gold update, which is a small – but worthwhile – expansion.

Chances are everyone have heard about the Hitman and Deus Ex franchises, considering the level of popularity both have garnered over the years. If you haven’t, here’s a short description of the main character in the first games:

Command and Conquer, one of the very best and greatest real time strategy classics. Along with Warcraft 2 and the original Red Alert, I’d say C&C is easily one of the best and most premiere RTS today. In fact, they helped pioneer the entire genre (not top mention Dune). In any case, I guess what I’m trying to say is that the game itself is really fun, especially for those who enjoy RTS games.

Great news for classic gaming fans as one of the very best, cream of the crop retro PC games is hitting GOG.com this Thursday. I am, of course, speaking of Syndicate the real-time isometric tactical strategy game developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts in 1993. This is easily one of those games that’s up there with the likes of X-Com and Jagged Alliance for best tactical strategy games.

Life as a cop is never easy… especially if your name is Sonny Bonds, and you’re the star of Sierra’s “Police Quest” series, where crime lurks around every corner and a ‘game over’ is never more than a single mistake away.

Good Old Games tweeted a big hint yesterday about an upcoming addition to their catalogue, and I doubt many were surprised when they revealed the big surprise earlier today: Team 17 is now a GOG.com partner!

Paul Koller’s awesome Canabalt Commodore 64 port “C64anabalt” just got a little more awesome with news of limited physical copies now available to order. The idea originally came about last year when the game was developed as an entry for the RGCD C64 16KB Cartridge Game Development Competition. Now for around $30 you can physically possess your very own C64 cartridge of the port–while supplies last of course.

One of the more interesting adventure games to ever get released has finally seen a release on everybody’s favorite retro gaming portal: GOG.com. Time Commando, by Adeline Software International (the same guys who did Little Big Adventure), is now available on the digital distribution store for a scant $5.99 and should work with XP, Vista and 7 in 32 or 64 bit versions.

Snake is an arcade classic that just doesn’t die. Ever since Nokia put a simplified version of the addicting little videogame on their mobile phones in the late 90s, everybody knows the little apple-munching reptile. The game is much older, though, and in fact should have celebrated its 35th birthday last year. It didn’t get a well-deserved birthday party, but thanks to indie developers Orbital Games it got quite the update.
