“Buy One, Get One Free” On AD&D Classics at GOG.com

Even though they were all 50% off during their crazy Christmas sale, no less than eight great RPGs are currently on sale at GOG.com. I’d recommend completely ignoring two of them however, as Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone is just a poor man’s hack’n'slash and Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is not really worth the admission fee either; but the rest all have my personal recommendations..

“The Commodore 64 / ZX Spectrum” Book Released

The Commodore/ ZX Spectrum Book

While there are posts about both the C64 and ZX Spectrum every now and then on various retro blogs (including right here on AgedGamer!), it’s certainly not every day that a book that pays homage to these two classic systems, sees the light of day.

Super Mario Bros. Crossover 2.0 Released

Over the years, a lot of Mario fan-games have been released, but unfortunately the majority of these have been ROM hacks, which meant they required the use of copyrighted material. That is not the case with Super Mario Bros. Crossover!

Ever Wonder Why Mario Is Considered A Hero?

Wait, what? Why would anyone claim that Mario is not a hero, after all these years of princess saving? Well, The Gamers Hub shared a reason or two as to why everyone’s favorite italian plumber is truly a hero; along with a brief history of his adventures. He’s been the star of countless games and even when he’s just a face in a huge crowd of Nintendo characters, as is the case with the Mario Party series, this little guy still manages to prove why he’s remained a fan favorite after more than 20 years in the spotlight.

Since his original incarnation in 1981, Mario has appeared in over 200 games, and the Mario series in its entirety has sold over 210 million units, making it the best-selling video game franchise in history.

He may not have been the star of those 200+ games, but does it really matter? He was there, even if they weren’t all mega hits (Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.. why?!), and come on.. “best-selling video game franchise in history” – that’s gotta count for something, right?

Sierra Classics are 50% Off On GOG.com This Weekend

This weekend, fans of point ‘n’ click goodness are gonna wanna check out GOG.com, because both the Police Quest, Space Quest and King’s Quest series are all 50% off – even the first two entries in the Police Quest spin-off series, SWAT are discounted! It would have been even better though, if they had the Quest For Glory series in their catalogue too, and maybe even more so, Leisure Suit Larry, but the three they do have are definitely recommendable  too.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun Interviews Firaxis About Their Upcoming XCOM Game

If you’re not excited about this game yet, I’d say it’s about time. Looking for a reason to get excited about it? Then I recommend reading this interview, where topics such as PC vs. console controls, explosions, and of course classic XCOM moments are discussed. But by the time you get to end, you’re going to see some bad news for impatient people: Rock, Paper, Shotgun decided not to post the entire thing at once (booooooooooo!):

GOG.com Gets Stealthy With Thief Gold

It seems that the great people at Good Old Games are on quite a roll, after the recent acquisition of Square Enix. This time they’ve brought part one of the stealth classic trilogy Thief into the world of DRM-free digital goodness. They (GOG.com) have made sure every game they’re selling comes bundled with extras, and this is no exception; the version of Thief comes with the Gold update, which is a small – but worthwhile – expansion.

The 25th Birthday of “Leisure Suit Larry” Celebrated in Style [Re-Review]

The year was 1987, our protagonist in this one was Larry Laffer, a 40 years old virgin (ouch!). Leisure Suit Larry marked the beginning of a lengthy series following the exploits of his quest for true happiness, but before all else his mission was to lose his virginity. While the game contained plenty sexual innuendo, it was by no means a pornographic title, as there was no nudity. Plenty of semi-adult comedy though.
