It’s not every day that a mod that truly sets itself apart from the rest comes out, but this is certainly one such. Simply titled Half-Life: Dreamcast and developed by a small team of three, this mod for the Steam version of Half-Life aim to bring a cancelled port of a classic back to life; even if it had to be done as a mod.
I won’t go into great detail about how awesome Half-Life is and why it’s so popular, as five seconds on Google will get you to a fan-site if you’re one of the few people today who never heard about Gordon Freeman’s adventures. Instead, I am going to be lazy (muahahaha!) and copy the feature list from the Mod DB page:
- Different Maps
- Different Models
- Revamped Menu
- High quality soundtrack
- Tweaked Difficulty
- Password Notifications
- The Little Differences
While I’m certain a large part of the game is similar to the PC original, fans are likely going to jump at the chance to play an unreleased port of their favorite shooter, since there are quite a few differences, both the obvious kind and those that are more subtle. I think this is a pretty good reason for returning to Black Mesa, even for those who did not like the Dreamcast.
Time to blast headcrabs.. again!
